Study Guide for Exam 1
Wednesday September 23, 2009 at 10:30 AM in LR1
Exam 1 will cover
all material in Lecture 1 through Lecture 10. You
are responsible for all lecture material, reading assignments and exercise
and problem assignments. The exam will consist of 30 multiple choice
questions, about 1/3 of these will be require a numerical answer, the
remaining questions will be of the conceptual type. The numerical problems
will be similar to the assigned problems in the textbook and to numerical
examples presented in class. Students should go over all of these problems
in preparation for this exam. The conceptual questions will refer to
material covered in the lectures. Going over the lecture presentations is
the best way to prepare for the conceptual questions. The textbook
readings are only supplementary.

Calculators will
not be necessary for this exam and you will NOT be allowed to use them.
The numerical problems will be designed so that
only simple multiplication and division will be required. I will choose the
numbers so that you should be able to figure the answers without using a
calculator.
With the exam questions,
I will provide a page containing all of the relevant formulas. All
relevant numerical constants, such as g, will also be given. You will not
need any conversion factors.
You do not need to memorize these formulas. You will get a copy of the
formulas with the exam questions. A copy of the formulas is posted on the
Exam Info Link
Students will be required
to hand in the answer form as well as the test form with your name when they
are finished. You will need your student identification number.
You will be required to show your student picture ID or your driver's
license when handing in your exam. Don't forget to bring your ID to
the exam.
Your exam score will be posted
on ICON.
