Final Exam: The final will be in LR1 VAN (usual lecture hall) at 7:30 AM on Friday, December 18. You may bring three 8.5” x 11” sheets of paper with notes on both sides. No calculators will be allowed as all the arithmetic will be simple. The final exam will be comprehensive, covering chapters 21-35 in the text. There will be 30 questions, evenly distributed over the material, except that there will be one or two more questions on material from chapter 35 since it was not included in a midterm.

Basic Facts:

Course Description The emphasis in this course is on the rigorous structure of classical physics and the development of the ability to solve problems. Topics include electricity, magnetism, and optics. We will cover 21-36 in the text, approximately one chapter per week.

Fundamentals of Physics, Vol. II by Walker, Halliday & Resnick, 8th edition

Lab
The labs are under the supervision of the teaching assistants who is responsible for grading your lab reports. The manual, is available at the University book store. The lowest lab score will be dropped.

Homework
is assigned every Tuesday, due the following Tuesday at 3pm. The assignments are completed online. There will be 8 problems assigned, out of which you will choose any 6 to do.

Exams
There will be 3 in-class midterm exams, September 30, November 11 and December 4. The lowest of the three midterm scores (after curving) will be dropped. The final exam will be 7:30 AM, Friday, December 18, 2009.

Grading
homework: 20%, lab reports: 20%, midterms: 20% each (two highest), final: 20%. Final grades will be curved according to the CLAS standard curve
