Videoconferencing Terminology
- H.323-This is a protocal used on the internet. It does not
use phone lines or modems.
- H.320-This is the protocol used when using a phone line called
ISDN. You pay by the minute for this type of dedicated phone
line.
- ISDN-See H.320 above.
- p2p-This is shorthand for point-to-point connections. It means
that a conference is just from point A to point B, with no
other groups joining in.
- H323/H320 mixed conference. These represent conferences in which
some groups are using ISDN lines and the newer directly connected H.323
systems.
- ICN-This is the Iowa Computer Network. They are based in Des Moines
and can schedule ISDN conferences from our H.323 systems.
