Vol II, Seventh Edition
Any errors discovered in the homework problems that are assigned
will be posted here as I become aware of them.
- Chapter 24
- Problem 21 - Round off error. The correct answer is 0.577 meters.
- Chapter 26
- Problem 59 - The correct answer is -5.6cm.
- Chapter 29
- Problem 35a - The number of significant digits is incorrect. The
correct answer is 1.78e-16. Some calculators round off internally
and so get 1.79e-16.
- Problem 35b - The answer is correct, BUT, if you use the E squared
formula rather than P=M0gammaV then many calculators do not have the
precision to correctly calculate this. This is because you subtract
two large numbers which differ only slightly to get your result.
Dear 29-12 students:
If you wish to earn extra credit on your HW, I
offer you 5 bonus points for each assigned problem
that you can find which has an incorrect solution
in the current edition of our book.
To qualify you must
1) be the first to discover the error;
2) write it up carefully and hand it to me;
3) choose a problem in the current or any earlier
chapter and;
4) I will verify it and add it to the list on this page.
5) The error has to be significant. For example, if it
is just a matter of rounding one decimal, that is not
sufficient.
Good Luck,
