Eligibility

To be eligible for the Strayer-Rairden Scholarship in Physics, students must:

• be from the state of Iowa
• have applied for admission to The University of Iowa and declared physics or astronomy as their major
• have taken the Drake Physics Prize Examination
  This exam is given in January at the student's high school. Information on the registration process is available through your high school guidance counselor or science teacher. The registration deadline for this exam is in early December.

Application Procedures

Send these application materials to the Chair of the Department of Physics and Astronomy.

• the completed application form and the requested separate pages (parts D and E of the application form)
• one official high school transcript
• ACT/SAT scores

Application Deadline

The packet of application materials must be postmarked no later than January 31, 2008.

Selection Criteria

A committee from the Department of Physics and Astronomy will review applications. The winner will be selected based on results from the Drake Physics Prize Examination, academic promise in physics or astronomy as judged by the department, and the quality of the essay contained in the application materials.
