Student Profile - Christopher Jones
This summer undergraduate student Christopher Jones participated in the CERN Summer Student Programme at Geneva, Switzerland, as part of the NSF Research Experience for Undergraduates program through the University of Michigan. Chris worked with ATRAP, a group which is seeking to produce and store cold antihydrogen. He worked with another summer student to build a vacuum system in preparation for the next ATRAP experiment. At the time of his departure, the vacuum system was up and running , and could hold a pressure of 1 x 10-7 Torr. Chris says the work at CERN was a very hands-on experimental experience, and that overall it was a good summer job which taught him many new skills. Chris, a native of Cedar Rapids, is in his senior year at Iowa studying physics and mathematics. His plans after graduation? Chris says, "Grad school in physics is competing with teaching high school for a few years, but I have yet to make any final decisions. We'll see how things develop over this year." |
