In the fall of 2003, the Department of Physics and Astronomy introduced
the Distinguished Public Lecture series. Prominent speakers, from the
University of Iowa and other institutions, provide an introduction
to the frontiers of physics and astronomy for non-specialists. No scientific
background is assumed. The lectures are normally held in Van Allen Hall.
