Lab Cards
TAs complete lab cards for all students in physics lab each semester evaluating the students' performance. You may obtain these cards in 203 Van Allen Hall. Within two weeks after the last week of classes you need to turn in your completed lab cards to Room 203 to be filed. Professors should check these cards if a student wants to be excused from the lab when doing a second-grade option. It is up to the instructor's discretion if the student has to re-take the lab. These cards will not be given or shown to the students. Cards are kept on file for five years.

Lab Space
See Aaron Votroubek (211 Van Allen Hall) to request lab space.

Leave of Absence
Leaves of absence (both paid and unpaid) must be approved by the DEO and the Dean.

Lectures
Faculty members are expected to cover all lectures, either by making up missed lectures or by finding replacements. Replacements should be either other faculty, post docs, or approved research scientists; teaching assistants should not be used in lectures. All faculty members are expected to teach large lecture courses occasionally. Lecture demonstration material can be obtained from the Lecture Demonstration Coordinator, Dale Stille (58-60 Van Allen Hall, 5-1833). Please give Dale at least 24 hours notice. See the demonstration website, http://www.physics.uiowa.edu/~dstille/.

Library
Keys are available for using the physics library after hours, 350 Van Allen Hall, 5-3082.

Load Shifting
Faculty who need to be off-campus at a research facility for most of one semester, may request to teach two courses in one semester and none the following semester. Requests will be granted if the faculty member shows a compelling need and the department is able to cover all courses. The DEO and the Dean must approve requests.

Loans
Students may see Heather Mineart in Room 203 to request a short-term emergency loan.

Lockers
Students may request a locker in the Commons Room (316 Van Allen Hall). See Heather Mineart (Room 203) if interested.

Logos
Guidelines are to be followed for use of the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences logo, and the UI logos for web publishing. See the UI Operations Manual section II-21 for further guidance on usage of the UI logo.

Lounge (Commons Room)
There is a lounge available for anyone from the department to use in 316 Van Allen Hall. There are lockers provided for use by undergraduates, which are checked out in Room 203. There is a microwave and refrigerator. Coffee is available for a fee, either by the cup or by the month (see Heather Mineart in Room 203 to pay by the month). There are also two computers available in this room.

Low Enrollments
When a course is identified as having low enrollment, the department will either, 1) drop the course from the curriculum, 2) restructure the course to ensure that future offerings will not have low enrollment or, 3) request a waiver from the College.
