Electronics
The electronics technician's office is located at 607 Van Allen Hall (ph. 5-1890). Shop time funded from external grants has priority over state supported use.

Engineering
The department employs one electrical engineer, Mike Miller, for faculty use. Shop time funded from external grants has priority over state supported use.

Equal Opportunity and Diversity
All full-time (50% time or more), permanent positions (excluding post docs) require an Equal Opportunity and Diversity approved search to fill the position. This includes staff paid from grant funds. Temporary positions are those which are less than a 50% appointment and are for a period less than a year, or in the case of academic positions, the 9-month academic year. To initiate the process, contact Chris Stevens at 5-1690 (214 Van Allen Hall). Additional information can be found at the Office of Equal Opportunity and Diversity web site.

Equipment, Capital
Capital equipment items charged to contracts or grants are not subject to indirect costs. Equipment is defined in section V.12.2 of the UI Operations Manual.

Ethics
When a faculty member or TA is representing the University off-campus, s/he must observe the code of professional conduct. The Faculty Senate is working on a code of ethics for faculty. Ethics and responsibilities for UI staff can be found in chapter 16 of the Operations Manual.

Executive Committee
Membership:
  1. The committee consists of five faculty members and one staff member. The Associate Chair serves as one of the faculty committee members, and the Chair appoints the other four. Appointed faculty members must be approved, as a group, by a majority of the voting faculty. The staff member will be appointed by the DEO.
  2. The four appointed faculty members would be chosen to represent the broad and diverse interests of the department.
  3. The appointed members each serve a two-year term, with the terms staggered, so each year the Chair will appoint and the faculty will approve two members of the committee.
Duties:
  1. The Executive Committee will meet regularly with the Chair to represent the interests of the faculty.
  2. The Executive Committee will advise the DEO on policy matters and other DEO concerns.
  3. At the first meeting of each academic year, the committee will elect a chairperson who will work closely with the department Chair.
  4. The Executive Committee will be responsible for appointing ad-hoc committees to make recommendations on substantive matters or to perform specific tasks.
  5. The Executive Committee will also advise the Chair on financial matters relating to research support and teaching.
