Darkroom

Degrees
B.A. or B.S. in Physics and/or Astronomy; B.S. in Applied Physics; M.S. in Physics and/or Astronomy; Ph.D. in Physics.

DEO
Departmental Executive Officer (DEO) serves a renewable three- to five-year term. Nominations for a new DEO must follow a selection process. Before appointing a new DEO, the Dean consults the members of the department in a faculty meeting. Each faculty member has the opportunity to confidentially consult with the Dean.

DEO Meetings
DEOs meet with the Dean the first Monday of the month. There are also small group DEO meetings scheduled once a month with one of the Deans. The Department of Physics and Astronomy is part of Group 1, Natural & Mathematical Sciences.

Departmental Awards Colloquium
The departmental awards colloquium is held the last Monday of classes of the spring semester each year. Undergraduate students give research presentations and the departmental student awards are conferred.

Developmental Assignments
Eligible faculty members may apply for semester assignments. Applications are due in September for assignments the next academic year. The DEO and the Dean, based on criteria set forth by the Provost, grant approval. Reports are required at the end of the assignment. Digital Camera
A digital camera is available for general departmental use. Please see Dale Stille (58-60 Van Allen Hall, 5-1833) to check out the camera.

Discretionary Funds
The Office of the Vice President for Research (VPR) has available a small discretionary fund for a variety of faculty needs that might not otherwise fit into other specific VPR programs. Read this memo (pdf) for a list of guidelines to follow when submiting a request for discretionary funds.

Drafting
Joyce Chrisinger, 712 Van Allen Hall, is the departmental draftsperson. She assists in the preparation of tables and illustrations for papers and reports. Her phone number is 5-1752.
