"Swine Influenza: What Do We Know About These Viruses and Their Threat to Humans?"

The recent emergence and rapid spread of a novel swine-like H1N1 influenza virus has led to an influenza pandemic. This virus has not only spread rapidly and widely among people in many diverse geographic regions but it has also been recently detected among pigs, ferrets, and turkeys. Dr. Gray and his University of Iowa team of researchers have been studying influenza viruses that originate in animals for a number of years. In this lecture he will review what we know about the biology and epidemiology of these viral threats to humans.
